Welcome to the Miramar Ship Index
The Miramar Ship Index, domiciled in the suburb of Miramar, Wellington, New Zealand is an historical database listing both merchant powered ships of about 100 gross register tons and above and naval ships of even smaller tonnage displacement (coverage now extended - see the June Upload notes below). The site presently contains over 401,000 index names, linked to over 225,000 ship entries in the Single Ship Reports.
The June 2008 upload :
- Extends the coverage of the Index to include composite, iron & steel-hulled sailing ships, numbering over 3,800 vessels. Thanks are due to Bill Schell who has kindly made available his draft volumes listing sailing ships for the 1870s & beyond.
Coming in July 2008 : CD-ROM database version :
- A CD-ROM version of the database will be available for purchase from mid-July. It offers much more functionality than the website and is particularly suitable for those who want a copy of the database on their desktop PC, or away from the home/office with a laptop.
